Indra and Hanwha sign contract for Spain’s K9 tracked artillery programme covering 128 howitzers and 152 support vehicles

Indra and Hanwha Aerospace signed an agreement covering 128 K9 self-propelled howitzers and 152 support vehicles for Spain’s tracked artillery programme. The support fleet comprises 120 ammunition vehicles, 11 command and fire-control vehicles, and 21 recovery vehicles, while Indra will serve as prime contractor and assemble the systems at a planned facility in Gijón. The companies did not disclose the contract value, delivery schedule, or whether Spain will receive the K9A1 or K9A2 variant, but the programme will replace the army’s ageing M109A5E artillery. The arrangement also embeds local production and technology transfer in the acquisition.
