Spanish Navy orders SIMBAD RC missile defence systems

The Spanish Navy ordered three MBDA SIMBAD RC shipborne air-defense systems for installation on vessels already in active service. Each remotely operated launcher uses MISTRAL surface-to-air missiles and can provide primary short-range defense or an additional layer against aircraft, drones, anti-ship missiles and sea-skimming threats in all weather. The framework agreement is MBDA’s first direct contract with the service and introduces a compact capability today that allows one operator to engage close threats without exposing personnel at the launcher.
