Spanish Navy to field three MBDA SIMBAD RC systems, adding new ship defence against sea-skimming missiles, aircraft and drones

MBDA signed a framework agreement to supply three SIMBAD RC systems to the Spanish Navy, giving the service a short-range anti-missile capability it does not currently field. The remotely controlled system uses MISTRAL missiles and is designed to engage anti-ship and sea-skimming missiles, aircraft and drones in all weather conditions. It can serve as a ship’s primary point-defence weapon or reinforce other onboard defensive layers, with operation by a single crew member. MBDA did not identify the vessels involved or disclose the contract value, delivery schedule or installation plan.
