Super Hornet weapons computer can no longer be supported

The U.S. Navy intends to award Boeing an order to redesign and qualify replacement components for the obsolete AN/AYK-22 stores management processor used by F/A-18E/F Super Hornet fighters and EA-18G Growler electronic-attack aircraft. The processor supports weapon-related aircraft functions, and aging electronic components can no longer be sustained through the existing supply chain, prompting consideration of redesigned hardware and qualification work. Naval Air Systems Command is seeking capability statements from alternative suppliers by October 28, 2026, before proceeding with the proposed sole-source action. This is a sustainment and redesign requirement, not an announcement of a completed upgrade or an awarded production contract.
