Sweden approves HIMARS purchase and expands Finnish long-range artillery partnership to strengthen NATO’s northern defences

Sweden has authorized a roughly SEK 7 billion, or $729 million, purchase of the High Mobility Artillery Rocket System, with deliveries due to start in 2027. The mobile launchers will add long-range precision fires and share munitions and components with Finland's tracked MLRS fleet. A Swedish-Finnish declaration covers training, maintenance, supply security and potential production cooperation, while Lockheed Martin and Saab will study industrial work and possible integration of the Ground-Launched Small Diameter Bomb. The acquisition is approved, but public material does not state launcher numbers or a complete ammunition mix.
