Swedish, Finnish fighter jets intercept Russian military aircraft

Finnish F/A-18 Hornets and Swedish JAS 39 Gripens conducted the countries' first joint operational air-identification mission over the Gulf of Finland on September 24. The quick-reaction aircraft intercepted and identified a group of Russian military aircraft in international airspace, including a transport aircraft and several fighter jets. The mission was carried out under the Finnish-Swedish framework for monitoring and safeguarding their airspace, demonstrating practical coordination between the two countries' alert forces.
