Taiwan plans US$850 million munition spend to prepare for potential PLA blockade
Taiwan is preparing a six-year emergency ammunition package worth about NT$27 billion, or $850 million, to improve endurance during a possible Chinese blockade. The 2026-2031 plan is intended to quadruple stocks of selected critical munitions and support a goal of sustaining roughly 120 days of operations when resupply could be disrupted. Procurement would combine domestic production with U.S. deliveries, addressing longstanding concerns that Taiwan's forces might exhaust key weapons before outside assistance could arrive during a prolonged coercive campaign or invasion scenario. Financing and production capacity will determine the plan's pace.
