Tajikistan, Turkmenistan to Import Indian Surface-to-Air Missile Systems
India's defence secretary confirmed Tajikistan and Turkmenistan as export customers for the indigenous Akash mobile surface-to-air missile system in early October 2026. Akash provides medium-range, radar-directed air defence against aerial targets and is produced through India's domestic missile and electronics industrial base. The announcement follows Armenia's acquisition of multiple batteries, which the secretary identified as the system's first export sale, and expands the disclosed customer base into Central Asia. Contract values, battery quantities and delivery schedules for the two newer customers were not specified, so the confirmation establishes their participation without defining the scale or fielding status of either national procurement.
