Royal Navy's 6th Astute-Class SSN HMS Agamemnon Begins Sea Trials

HMS Agamemnon, the Royal Navy's sixth Astute-class nuclear-powered attack submarine, left BAE Systems' Barrow-in-Furness yard on September 25 to begin sea trials. Commissioned in September 2025 and subjected to an initial trim dive the following month, the boat will now validate propulsion, sensors, weapons, and overall performance before frontline service. Once operational, Agamemnon will conduct intelligence, anti-submarine, and land-attack missions using Spearfish torpedoes and Tomahawk missiles, while helping protect Britain's carrier groups, nuclear deterrent, critical undersea infrastructure, and deployed naval forces during long overseas deployments worldwide.
