Tiny nuclear reactors headed to a Georgia U.S. Army base

The US Army selected Fort Benning, Georgia, as one of five installations for Project Janus, announcing plans for three Radiant Kaleidos microreactors on August 26. Each unit is designed to generate one megawatt, creating a combined three-megawatt source for Lawson Army Airfield and other critical infrastructure while connected to the installation grid. Radiant will own, operate, fuel, and remove the reactors; each can run for up to five years between refuelling and has a projected 20-year life. The Army targets the first Janus reactor for operation in 2028, while the exact Fort Benning site remains undecided.
