Type 31 schedule challenges being monitored

Britain’s Ministry of Defence says it is monitoring schedule pressure on the five-ship Type 31 frigate programme, citing an ambitious construction plan and the demands of system integration, testing, and assurance. Officials did not identify a new discrete delay or issue a revised delivery timetable. Babcock is building the general-purpose frigates at Rosyth using a production approach intended to become increasingly stable and repeatable across the class. The ships will replace part of the Royal Navy’s Type 23 fleet and perform maritime-security and presence missions, while the ministry and contractor continue managing risks before entry into service.
