U.S. Air Force rapidly launches multiple B-2 Spirit stealth bombers in Spirit Vigilance 2026 global strike readiness drill

The 509th Bomb Wing rapidly generated, armed and launched multiple B-2 Spirit bombers from Whiteman Air Force Base during the August Spirit Vigilance 2026 exercise. Air Force footage showed six named aircraft participating as crews compressed maintenance, weapons-loading and sortie-generation timelines. The drill evaluated whether the wing could coordinate large-scale launches and preserve the readiness and proficiency required for global strike operations. It was a readiness demonstration rather than an operational deployment and involved a substantial share of the Air Force’s current 19-aircraft B-2 fleet.
