U.S. Army accelerates PrSM Increment 2 for moving maritime targets under streamlined rapid-fielding acquisition pathway

The U.S. Army moved Precision Strike Missile Increment 2 from the Major Capability Acquisition process to the Middle Tier of Acquisition Rapid Fielding pathway to accelerate an early moving-target capability. Increment 2 adds a multi-mode seeker for engaging moving maritime and relocatable land targets while retaining compatibility with M142 HIMARS and M270A2 launchers. The programme reuses validated Increment 1 hardware, software and test evidence to shorten integration and verification, while enabling earlier production decisions and continuous technology insertion. A March 2026 flight test launched the Lockheed Martin missile from HIMARS on a 350-kilometre flight and exercised the new seeker, with additional testing planned.
