U.S. Army Advances Boeing-Anduril Mid-Tier Interceptor to Counter Cruise Missiles and Drones

The U.S. Army advanced the Boeing-Anduril and Lockheed Martin teams into Phase 2 of its IFPC Increment 2 Second Interceptor competition, while Rafael was eliminated. The new mid-tier weapon is intended to complement AIM-9X-equipped Enduring Shield batteries by extending engagement range and preserving more expensive upper-tier interceptors against cruise missiles and drones. Boeing’s concept combines its seeker and compact airframe with an Anduril solid-rocket motor and a modular open architecture. Phase 2 covers detailed design, integration and demonstrations; the Army has not yet selected a production interceptor.
