U.S. Army awards AV $464.8 million laser weapon deal

The U.S. Army awarded AeroVironment a $464.8 million contract for LOCUST X3 directed-energy laser weapon systems. The deal supports counter-drone defense and marks a first for directed-energy serial production. Dozens of units will be delivered to expand short-range air defense. The systems target UAS threats with high-energy lasers.
