U.S. Army awards NG $4.8B for helicopter missile defense

The US Army awarded Northrop Grumman a contract with a ceiling of approximately $4.8 billion for aircraft survivability equipment that protects helicopters from guided missiles. The work centers on fielding, sustaining and upgrading infrared countermeasure capabilities able to detect a launch, track the incoming threat and disrupt its seeker before impact. Because the ceiling supports orders placed over time, it should not be read as an immediate expenditure or fixed quantity, while individual aircraft, delivery lots and funding will be defined through subsequent tasking.
