U.S. Army Buys PERCH 2.0 Launchers to Give M1A2 Abrams Tanks Drone Strike Capability
The US Army has purchased three General Dynamics Land Systems PERCH 2.0 prototype launchers for evaluation on M1A2 Abrams tanks, while the company is providing a fourth unit. The armored-vehicle installation is intended to fire AeroVironment Switchblade 300 loitering munitions from protected launch canisters, giving tank crews an organic means of engaging targets beyond direct line of sight. All four prototype systems are scheduled for delivery by the end of October 2026 to the 1st Brigade, 1st Cavalry Division, at Fort Hood, Texas. The acquisition supports soldier trials and system development rather than confirmed fleet-wide operational fielding.
