U.S. Army fields new cranes for Typhon, Dark Eagle units

The US Army has begun fielding new all-terrain cranes to support its Typhon and Dark Eagle long-range missile units at Joint Base Lewis-McChord. Two 40-ton Family of All-Terrain Cranes Type I vehicles arrived in late August, with six more expected by the end of October 2026. The eight-crane allocation supports the 1st Battalion, 17th Field Artillery Regiment, and the 5th Battalion, 3rd Field Artillery Regiment, providing organic lifting capacity for missile handling and maintenance. Training included reloading Typhon's Tomahawk and Standard Missile-6 canisters, reducing reliance on fixed installation or contractor lifting equipment.
