U.S. Army tests tethered drone on a light squad vehicle

U.S. Army soldiers and capability developers spent two weeks at Fort Benning evaluating tethered drones mounted on Infantry Squad Vehicles under demanding field conditions. A cable can provide continuous power and a protected data path, keeping a sensor aloft for persistent local surveillance even when radio links or satellite navigation are jammed. The trials examined whether small units could operate the equipment while moving or from short halts without overburdening crews, supporting a mobile observation capability that is harder to exhaust than battery-powered quadcopters.
