U.S. Corsair Autonomous Surface Vessels Expand Security Operations Around Panama Canal Approaches
US-built Saronic Corsair autonomous surface vessels are supporting maritime-security operations around the approaches to the Panama Canal following the PANAMAX 2026 exercise. The roughly 24-foot uncrewed boats remained in Panama after the multinational exercise and are operating alongside the country's National Aeronaval Service for patrol, surveillance and monitoring missions. Their autonomous-navigation systems and onboard sensors allow them to detect and track maritime activity while crews and authorities retain responsibility for operational decisions and law enforcement. The continued presence marks a transition from exercise participation to practical security support, although the number of vessels and duration of the mission were not disclosed.
