U.S. F-22 Raptor Tests New Low-Observable Sensor Pods During Aggressive Flight Maneuvers

An F-22 Raptor has been photographed testing new low-observable underwing sensor pods during maneuvering over California. At least one pod appears to include an infrared or electro-optical aperture, suggesting a passive detection capability intended to improve long-range awareness while limiting radar emissions and preserving the aircraft’s stealth characteristics. The test follows earlier demonstration work and planned low-rate production activity, but the Air Force has released no performance data or operational fielding declaration, so the precise sensor suite, mission configuration and readiness within combat units remain undisclosed.
