U.S. Navy Expands Hammerhead Anti-Submarine Mine Production with General Dynamics

General Dynamics Mission Systems received a $229.7 million contract modification for 188 additional Hammerhead systems and eight supporting items, with work expected to continue through October 2028. Hammerhead is an encapsulated anti-submarine mine built around the Mk 54 lightweight torpedo and designed for placement on the seabed. Once cued by its sensors, the system can release the torpedo against a detected submarine. The expanded order increases the Navy's capacity for distributed undersea denial while sustaining a production base for sophisticated autonomous seabed weapons and faster inventory growth.
