U.S. Navy Restores USS Florida SSGN Submarine With 154 Tomahawk Missile Capacity After Two-Year Overhaul

USS Florida completed a two-year major maintenance period at Naval Submarine Base Kings Bay, restoring the Ohio-class guided-missile submarine’s readiness to return to sea. The Navy announced the milestone on October 2, 2026, alongside a Blue Crew change of command following work to modernize and repair critical onboard systems. Florida’s converted missile compartment can accommodate up to 154 Tomahawk cruise missiles across 22 launch tubes, providing a substantial conventional land-attack capacity. Two forward tubes support special-operations access, while accommodation for personnel and dry deck shelter compatibility enable additional missions alongside the submarine’s missile-strike role.
