U.S. Navy Seeks Information on SSN(X) Next Gen Submarine
The US Navy issued a sources-sought notice seeking industrial information on construction of its future SSN(X) nuclear-powered attack submarine. The inquiry examines shipyard capacity for large submarine hull fabrication, installation of nuclear propulsion compartments, modular assembly, specialized facilities and the workforce needed for an eventual production program. SSN(X) is intended to succeed the Virginia-class design with improved undersea combat capabilities, but its final specifications and procurement arrangements remain under development. The notice is an industrial-market assessment, not a shipbuilding contract, and potential production during the 2030s remains dependent on design maturity, available yards and future funding.
