U.S. Navy swaps homeports of Ohio-class submarines Wyoming and Pennsylvania to prepare fleet for Columbia-class introduction
The US Navy completed a homeport exchange between Ohio-class ballistic-missile submarines USS Wyoming and USS Pennsylvania, with Wyoming arriving at Naval Base Kitsap-Bangor on October 1, 2026. Pennsylvania relocated to Naval Submarine Base Kings Bay, Georgia, as part of preparations to position newer submarines in the Pacific ahead of Columbia-class introduction. The vessels exchanged bases while their crews and families remained at their original duty stations, avoiding most cross-country personnel moves. The arrangement supports continued sea-based strategic deterrence during fleet modernization, using the Navy’s two-crew operating model to maintain submarine availability and extended patrol coverage.
