U.S. Navy Taps Raytheon to Extend SPY-6 Radar Detection Range via Software

The Office of Naval Research awarded Raytheon a contract to develop improved target-detection algorithms for U.S. Navy radars, with the AN/SPY-6 family identified as the principal transition path. The work combines new signal and data processing with targeted software upgrades intended to increase detection range, sensitivity and processing efficiency. Development runs through 2031 and builds on ONR's ASPIRE and STORM research efforts. The award concerns radar capability development through software, separate from Raytheon's existing SPY-6 hardware production and sustainment contracts, and does not establish a quantified increase in operational detection range.
