US approves $5 billion Foreign Military Sale to Saudi Arabia for 10,000 JDAM-ER bomb kits

Saudi Arabia has requested a possible $5 billion Foreign Military Sale comprising 10,004 JDAM-ER guidance kits and corresponding general-purpose bomb bodies. The package includes 5,004 KMU-572 kits with BLU-111 500-pound bombs and 5,000 KMU-556 kits with BLU-117 2,000-pound bombs, plus fuzes, target detectors, spares, training, and logistics support, with Boeing identified as the principal contractor. The State Department's clearance and congressional notification authorize negotiations only; they do not represent a signed contract, and the final price, quantities, delivery schedule, configuration, and support package may change.
