U.S. Raid Hunter 50mm Air Defense System Gains Longer-Range Radar to Counter Mass Drone Attacks

Northrop Grumman is integrating SRC's Gryphon R1810 radar into the Raid Hunter 50 mm gun-based air-defence system to improve detection and projectile tracking. The radar doubles antenna subarrays per panel from four to eight relative to the R1540 design, with SRC quoting detection ranges of 21.6 kilometres for Group 1 drones and 49.4 kilometres for Group 3 aircraft. It can simultaneously track a target and the guided ammunition fired against it, while four panels provide 360-degree surveillance. Developed from design to prototype in six months, the sensor's stated detection distances do not represent the effective engagement range of Raid Hunter's cannon.
