UK Ministry of Defence says Rolls-Royce will build every Australian SSN-AUKUS nuclear reactor at its Derby facility

The UK Ministry of Defence says Rolls-Royce will manufacture every nuclear reactor for Australia's planned SSN-AUKUS submarines at its Raynesway site in Derby. Australia has committed £2.4 billion over ten years to expand the shared propulsion enterprise, while the same facility will also supply reactors for British boats. The arrangement concentrates a critical part of the program in Britain even though Australian submarines are intended to be built at Osborne in South Australia. Long-lead design and industrial work is advancing, with the first British hull expected to start construction in 2027 and enter service in the late 2030s.
