Ukraine and Lockheed Martin discuss F-16 Block 70/72 fighters as Kyiv reports more than 3,150 aerial targets downed in combat

Ukrainian Air Force representatives met Lockheed Martin to discuss a possible future transition to new-build F-16 Block 70/72 fighters, which incorporate modern radar, avionics, and structural improvements. Kyiv separately reported that its current F-16 force had destroyed more than 3,150 aerial targets, including 666 cruise missiles, highlighting the aircraft's air-defense role. The talks do not constitute a purchase agreement, and any acquisition would still require financing, government approvals, production slots, training, weapons, maintenance, and supporting infrastructure. Kyiv has not released evidence that would allow independent verification of every target claimed in the operational total.
