Ukraine Defense Industry Hits $55 Billion Capacity as Wartime Exports Begin

Ukraine’s defense industry is estimated to have more than $55 billion in annual production capacity in 2026, roughly 55 times its 2022 level. Kyiv issued the first wartime export licenses in February, seeking foreign revenue, industrial partnerships and larger production runs for capabilities not fully funded through domestic procurement. The policy remains tightly controlled and the initial export activity appears limited, with only a small number of contracts reported, so the headline capacity figure should not be read as actual output or as evidence of unrestricted weapons sales during the war.
