Under heavy cloud cover, Russia fires massive drone barrage at western Ukraine

Russia launched 863 drones against Ukraine over 24 hours, according to the Ukrainian General Staff, including a large overnight wave routed through heavy cloud cover toward western regions. Ukraine said the mix included Geran-2 attack drones, Gerbera and Parodiya decoys, missile-carrying S8000 Banderol systems and a faster jet-powered variant; 409 were reportedly shot down or jammed in the immediate wave. A drone hit a passenger-train locomotive near the Polish border without casualties, while other strikes injured civilians. Poland scrambled fighters and airborne surveillance assets but reported no violation of its airspace.
