US Army accelerates HIMARS PrSM Increment 2 anti-ship missile deployment under Rapid Fielding path

The United States Army moved Precision Strike Missile Increment 2 into the rapid-fielding pathway, seeking to accelerate a version designed to engage moving ships and relocatable land targets. Its multimode seeker builds on Increment 1 hardware and software, while retaining compatibility with HIMARS and M270A2 launchers; a March 2026 flight test demonstrated a 350-kilometre engagement. Each pod holds two missiles, doubling launcher capacity over ATACMS, but the service has not announced a fielding date and operational value will depend on resilient sensor-to-shooter networks. M270A2 launchers can carry four missiles in two pods.
