US Army Autonomy Push: FASCOM to Test Robotic Fires, Breaching and Recon Units
The US Army selected Futures and Concepts Command for redesignation as FASCOM on October 13, 2026, assigning it corps-level autonomy experiments. I Corps will test autonomous fires and watercraft units, III Corps an armoured reconnaissance company, V Corps a breaching company, and XVIII Airborne Corps aerial surveillance and lift companies. An 8th Army experiment will pair crewed and uncrewed helicopters, allowing attack pilots to control drone sensors for over-the-horizon targeting and coordinated fires. Fort Rucker becomes the UAS Autonomy Center of Excellence, while experimental formations receive 390A robotics technicians to support evaluation of autonomous equipment, tactics and future unit structures.
