US Army Project Flytrap Scales Counter-Drone Breach to Battalion by Spring 2027
The US Army's 2nd Cavalry Regiment plans to field a complete counter-drone and electronic-warfare equipment set to at least one operational squadron in fiscal 2027. Project Flytrap Phase II will begin with a fall 2026 command-post exercise establishing a unified network, followed by individual and platoon-level training during winter 2027. A squadron-level breach is scheduled for spring 2027, adapting suppression, obscuration, security, reduction and assault procedures to drone and electronic reconnaissance screens. The effort also seeks unmanned ground vehicles and electronic-warfare hardware through prize-challenge contracting, with the objective of validating formation-level maneuver rather than only demonstrating individual drone defeats.
