US-Based Leonardo DRS Begins cxMHR Radar Production With 330 km Aircraft Detection
Leonardo DRS has begun initial production of its cxMHR radar, unveiling the system at AUSA on October 12, 2026. The fully digital C-band AESA integrates four radar panels, identification friend-or-foe equipment and command-and-control functions in an ISO-containerised package that deploys on a single vehicle. DRS quotes continuous 360-degree coverage, detection beyond 90 kilometres against drones and loitering munitions, and beyond 330 kilometres against transport aircraft. Designed for integrated air and missile defence, the software-defined radar provides fire-control-quality tracking and interfaces with multiple battle-management architectures to support simultaneous surveillance of ballistic missiles, cruise missiles, rockets and unmanned aircraft.
