US Navy Commissions USS Ted Stevens, Flight III Destroyer With SPY-6
The US Navy scheduled the commissioning of USS Ted Stevens, DDG-128, for October 3, 2026, at Whittier, Alaska, adding another Flight III Arleigh Burke-class destroyer to its fleet. The ship incorporates the AN/SPY-6(V)1 Air and Missile Defense Radar, supporting simultaneous surveillance and engagement of aircraft and ballistic-missile threats through its integrated combat system. Flight III changes include expanded electrical generation and cooling capacity to accommodate the radar and associated air-and-missile-defense equipment. Built by HII’s Ingalls Shipbuilding and assigned to Norfolk, Virginia, Ted Stevens brings the updated destroyer configuration into service following construction, trials and delivery.
