USAF, Northrop Grumman vertically assemble inert LGM-35A Sentinel missile

The USAF and Northrop Grumman completed the first vertical assembly of an inert LGM-35A Sentinel ICBM, a milestone for the ground-based strategic deterrent program. The activity validates integration and handling procedures ahead of flight testing. Sentinel will replace the aging Minuteman III fleet. The program continues to face cost and schedule pressures under Nunn-McCurdy scrutiny.
