VOYANT Demonstrates Software-Defined Approach to Strengthen ASW Operations

Voyant demonstrated probabilistic tracking software integrated with Thales UK's S2087 variable-depth sonar and a Mind Foundry decision-support system for the UK Ministry of Defence and Royal Navy. The software-defined approach applies particle-filter techniques to sonar data to improve the detection, tracking and classification of submarines while using existing sensor hardware. The demonstration showed how new algorithms can be inserted into an established anti-submarine warfare architecture, although no procurement decision or operational fielding timetable was announced.
