DTI delivers 5.56x45 mm carbines to the Thai military
Thailand's Defence Technology Institute delivered locally produced 5.56x45 mm MI-5 carbines for user trials to the Royal Thai Armed Forces Headquarters and the army, navy and air force on September 3. The weapon is produced by Weapons Manufacturing Industries, a DTI joint venture, using technology transferred from Israel and is assessed as based on Emtan's MZ-4 design. The distribution is intended to obtain operational feedback and support Thailand's policy of moving from defence importer toward domestic producer and exporter. Neither DTI nor the available reporting disclosed the number of rifles delivered, a service-wide adoption decision or follow-on production value.
