Lockheed Martin unveils modular AGM-158 FLEX airframe, extending JASSM and LRASM technology across air, ground, surface and subsurface launch
Lockheed Martin unveiled AGM-158 FLEX, a modular airframe architecture that combines established JASSM subsystems with interchangeable nose and boat-tail sections for air, ground, surface and subsurface launch. A removable nose can accept JASSM or LRASM sensor suites, while two planned airframe lengths correspond to JASSM-ER and the longer-range JASSM-XR, which will be the first FLEX-based weapon. Lockheed Martin has invested more than $35 million in the concept and intends to use the existing AGM-158 production line, supply chain, mission-planning tools and software infrastructure rather than create a separate manufacturing system.
