US approves sale of over 10,000 bombs to Saudi Arabia
A proposed US sale to Saudi Arabia covers 10,004 JDAM guidance kits and an equal number of 500- and 2,000-pound bomb bodies, plus fuzes, support and related equipment. The package includes 5,004 KMU-572 kits with BLU-111 bodies and 5,000 KMU-556 kits with BLU-117 bodies, within an estimated $5 billion ceiling. It would expand Saudi stocks of precision-guided air-delivered munitions and associated sustainment. State Department approval and congressional notification permit the transaction to proceed, but they do not constitute a completed contract or guarantee the listed quantity, value or delivery timing.
