U.S. Army orders new infrared sensors for its Avenger
The Defense Logistics Agency awarded L3Harris subsidiary Cincinnati Electronics a contract worth up to $25.2 million for Avenger infrared sensors. The five-year, sole-source agreement runs through September 2031 and supplies forward-looking infrared units used to detect and track targets at night or in poor visibility. Avenger combines eight Stinger missiles and a machine gun on a stabilized Humvee-mounted turret, with the thermal sensor supporting acquisition and lock confirmation against low-flying aircraft, drones, and cruise missiles. Because the award is an indefinite-delivery arrangement, the Army has not committed publicly to a fixed number of sensors.
