U.S. Forces Deploy Layered Drone Surveillance Capabilities Along Southern Border
US forces are deploying layered uncrewed-aircraft surveillance along the southern border to provide persistent detection across terrain that fixed towers and patrols cannot continuously cover. Combining aircraft with different endurance, altitude, and sensor characteristics can improve cueing, track handoff, and coverage of remote approaches. The systems support border authorities with imagery and alerts rather than replacing law-enforcement decisions on the ground. Operational value will depend on communications, weather, airspace coordination, data processing, maintenance, privacy safeguards, and the ability to distinguish unlawful activity from routine movement.
