AUSA 2026: Raytheon begins testing rocket-powered Coyote interceptor
Raytheon has conducted initial field tests of Coyote Block 2C+RM, a counter-drone interceptor that replaces the existing variant's jet engine with a solid rocket motor. The new configuration also introduces an upgraded seeker and warhead, with testing documented at Dugway Proving Ground, Utah, in July 2026. Raytheon says the changes provide faster launch, higher flight speed and improved terminal engagement performance while remaining compatible with existing launch cells, guidance radars and command systems. Detailed range and speed figures were not released, and the announcement describes testing of the upgraded interceptor rather than its operational deployment.
