Three downselected for next phase of France's DANAE USV project
France's Defence Innovation Agency and navy shortlisted three teams on October 8 for the next phase of the DANAE armed surface-drone program. The contenders are SeaOwl Technology Solutions, a consortium comprising SEAir, ÆGIR, MBDA and Diadès Marine, and a Sirehna-led team with Naval Group and Chantier Naval Couach. They will continue rapid development and assessment following January trials of seven French-designed systems near Saint-Mandrier that examined navigation, endurance and autonomous decision-making. The eventual vessel is intended for ship escort and protection of military and civilian ports, with the shortlist representing continued competition rather than a final procurement award.
