F-15EX May Finally Get Missile Warning System The USAF Originally Skimped On Buying
The U.S. Air Force is surveying industry for an operational missile-launch and approach-warning system for the F-15EX, potentially restoring a capability omitted from the aircraft's original procurement plan. The service wants 360-degree passive warning, rapid installation and use of six existing sensor locations with available wiring, power and cooling. The notice is market research rather than a solicitation or contract, but a fielded infrared system would complement the Eagle Passive Active Warning Survivability System by detecting incoming missiles that may not be visible to radar-based electronic-warning sensors.
