How The Groundwork For F-47 Flight Testing Is Being Laid
The Air Force Test Center is preparing the F-47's test programme by involving developmental and operational test organisations early in the aircraft's design. Teams at Edwards are combining physical flight data from relevant testing with digital models and graphics-processor-based fluid-dynamics analysis to examine loads, airflow and behaviour at high angles of attack. This approach is intended to refine test planning and identify design questions before the new fighter flies. Boeing is building the first aircraft, with initial flight expected in 2028 and service targeted for the early 2030s; the activity described is groundwork for testing, not an F-47 flight demonstration.
