The Système de combat aérien du futur, known internationally as FCAS, is the Franco-German-Spanish next-generation air combat system. Its centerpiece is the New Generation Fighter, designed by Dassault Aviation alongside a swarm of Airbus-led Remote Carriers connected through a combat cloud. Phase 1B launched in late 2022 and Phase 2 demonstrator work was authorized in 2024, but persistent friction between Dassault and Airbus over workshare and intellectual property has slowed progress. With Indra anchoring Spain's contribution, the program targets a first flight before 2030 and IOC in the late 2030s — assuming the industrial governance dispute can be resolved.
