Naval Group Begins Production of Sweden's First FDI Frigate Just One Month After Contract Signing
Naval Group began production of Sweden’s first FDI frigate by cutting steel for the future FDI Luleå at Lorient, about one month after the bilateral contract was signed. The reported €4.3 billion programme adapts the French-designed frigate to Swedish requirements and will integrate national equipment including Saab radars, RBS15 anti-ship missiles, and Bofors guns. Starting fabrication so soon after contract signature reflects advance design preparation, but the ships still face construction, integration, testing, and acceptance work before final delivery to the Swedish Navy as planned.
